Sen. Tim Scott will address California Republicans in Orange County next month

Nov 11, 2023Nov 11, 2023

South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott is the latest GOP presidential contender to be confirmed as a speaker for the California Republican Party at its fall convention in Anaheim next month.

Scott, who held a ticketed town hall and reception in Newport Beach earlier this week, will address the convention on Sept. 29. Former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis are also confirmed to speak that same day.

“I am excited to welcome back Sen. Tim Scott to our convention stage,” said CAGOP Chairwoman Jessica Millan Patterson. “He has been a champion for South Carolinians throughout his career and has exemplified perseverance and dedication. He is an influential force to our party, inspiring future generations and advocating for policies that promote prosperity for all Americans.”

With a “nice guy” reputation and higher favorability ratings, Scott, 57, has largely stayed optimistic on the campaign trail thus far. He often invokes his Christian faith and his upbringing in the South.

He’s the only Black Republican in the Senate, where he’s served since 2013.

The fall convention is slated to take place at the Anaheim Marriott Hotel from Sept. 29 through Oct. 1.

Trump is scheduled to speak during a luncheon, and DeSantis is planned to address a dinner that same day. CA GOP says Scott will be a keynote speaker during an afternoon portion of the convention.

Other speakers are yet to be announced, the party said.

A June survey of likely California Republican voters found 50% said they would vote for Trump for president — that’s ahead of 24% who picked DeSantis, 6% for former Vice President Mike Pence and 5% for Scott.
